サンクスギビングとは？・What is Thanksgiving?

サンクスギビング（または感謝祭）とは毎年アメリカやカナダなどで祝われる祝日のひとつです。アメリカでは11月の第4週木曜日に祝われ、カナダでは10月の第2週の月曜日に祝われます。サンクスギビングでは家族が皆集まり、お互いのことやおきた様々な出来事を感謝する日です。家族が集まった際、たくさんの料理、例えばターキー、ポテト、グレービー、クランベリー、パンプキンパイなどが用意されます。ちなみにサンクスギビングは17世紀頃から行われており、起源はイギリスからアメリカに来たpilgrim（ピルグリム）と呼ばれる人たちが新しい土地・場所での初めての収穫を神に感謝したことだと言われています。

Thanksgiving is a holiday that is held every year in America and Canada. In America, it is celebrated on the Thursday of the 4th week in November, while in Canada, it is celebrated on the Monday of the 2nd week in October. Thanksgiving is where families get together and celebrate and thank the harvest and other blessings of the past year. During thanksgiving, many different types of foods are prepared, including turkey, potatoes, gravy, cranberries, and pumpkin pie. It is said that thanksgiving has been celebrated since around the 17th century, where pilgrims (who are people that go on a journey to a foreign land with a religious purpose) from the UK, had celebrated and thanked the god for the harvest in a new place/area.
